No official pass/fail
Recruiting authorities may use different typing speeds, time limits, languages, error deductions, software and keyboard instructions.
Typing stays in your browser
The passage you type is processed locally for this session. The tool does not upload keystrokes or store your practice text.
Correct mistakes as you go
The estimated accuracy compares each typed character with the matching reference position. An inserted or skipped character can affect later positions.
How to use this typing practice test
- Choose a 1, 3 or 5 minute session and a passage.
- Click the typing area and begin typing. The timer starts on your first character.
- Use Backspace to fix mistakes. The test finishes at the time limit, when you complete the passage exactly, or when you choose Finish.
- Review the estimated WPM and character accuracy, then compare the official skill-test requirements in your recruitment notice.
Gross WPM = typed characters ÷ 5 ÷ minutes elapsed. Correct-character WPM uses the number of characters matching their reference positions instead. These are practice estimates, not an authority’s official error-adjusted typing score.
Typing Speed Test FAQ
Is this an official government typing test?
No. It is an independent English typing practice tool. Official qualifying speed, error limits, timing, language, test software and keyboard rules vary by recruitment.
Why are gross speed and correct-character speed different?
Gross speed uses all characters typed, while correct-character speed uses only characters matching the reference at their respective positions. Both use the common five-characters-per-word convention and are estimates.
What if I switch tabs or lock my screen?
The time limit keeps running while you are away. When you return, the test checks the elapsed clock time and finishes if the limit has passed.
Does the tool keep my typed text?
No. This tool has no backend submission or persistent storage. Your typing stays in the current browser page, and starting a new test discards it.
