SAIL Young Professionals Recruitment 2026 is open for 11 engagements in Kolkata across steel marketing, information technology, finance, statutory compliance and environment management. Steel Authority of India Limited announced this CMO and EMD recruitment through Advertisement CMO/YP/2026-01 on 30 September 2026. Online applications close on 15 October 2026.
The monthly consolidated retainership is ₹70,000 for YP-1, ₹1,00,000 for YP-2 and ₹1,40,000 for YP-3. These are temporary engagements under a contract for service. Candidates should assess the relevant experience requirement and contractual benefits alongside the monthly payment before choosing an engagement.
Each engagement code has one opening. The application portal requires candidates to select one engagement, so the first practical task is to match your degree, work history and age with the correct code. Read the official SAIL advertisement and use the SAIL CMO and EMD application portal to register.

Important dates
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Advertisement issued | 30 September 2026 |
| Online applications available from | 30 September 2026 |
| Last date to apply | 15 October 2026 |
| Age, qualification and experience reference date | 15 October 2026 |
| Test or interview schedule | To be announced |
The official selection schedule confirms the application dates. It does not currently display a test or interview date. Avoid leaving submission until the final day: registration, document uploads, fee confirmation and saving the completed application are separate tasks.
Educational qualifications
Candidates must be Indian nationals. Essential qualifications must be regular or full-time in the relevant stream from institutions recognised by UGC, AICTE, ICAI or ICMAI, as appropriate to the qualification.
| Code | Essential qualification |
|---|---|
| M-1 | B.E./B.Tech/Graduate with MBA (Marketing) |
| M-2 | B.E./B.Tech; Mechanical or Civil preferred |
| M-3 | B.E./B.Tech; Mechanical or Metallurgy preferred |
| M-4 | B.E./B.Tech in Civil, Mechanical or Structural Engineering, described as preferred in the notice |
| C-1 | B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related engineering discipline |
| C-2 | B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field |
| C-3 | B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field |
| F-1 and F-2 | CA or CMA |
| D-1 | Graduate with MBA in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations |
| E-1 | B.E./B.Tech |
For M-1, check the degree-and-MBA wording against your actual qualifications rather than assuming that a general graduation certificate alone qualifies you. For the finance engagements, a commerce degree by itself does not replace the listed CA or CMA qualification.
Desirable credentials are listed separately in the advertisement. They include marketing MBAs for the business-development engagements; relevant advanced degrees or certifications for the market analyst and technology roles; and postgraduate environment-management qualifications for E-1. A desirable credential does not remove a mandatory experience requirement.
Relevant experience: what each code requires
The minimum duration is only one part of the experience test. Your work must also match the subject area required for your engagement.
| Code | Minimum experience and relevant area |
|---|---|
| M-1 | 10 years after qualification in market research, business analytics or strategic planning; steel/manufacturing experience preferred |
| M-2 | 3 years after qualification in the specified steel/product, building-material or industrial/project/channel-sales areas |
| M-3 | 3 years after qualification in coated/flat steel products, building materials or the specified sales areas |
| M-4 | 3 years after qualification in sales/business development, including structural steel fabrication, PEB, heavy engineering structures or EPC-facing project sales |
| C-1 | 6 years after qualification, including at least two SAP SD implementations, with at least one in SAP India version |
| C-2 | 6 years after qualification in full-stack application development, demonstrating front-end and back-end expertise |
| C-3 | 3 years after qualification, including at least one SAP implementation |
| F-1 | 6 years after qualification in GST compliance, tax planning and indirect-tax management in a large organisation |
| F-2 | 3 years after qualification in credit, receivables or working-capital management in a large corporate |
| D-1 | 3 years after qualification in statutory industrial-relations requirements |
| E-1 | 3 years in decarbonisation, climate change, sustainability, CO₂ accounting and GHG assessment |
The advertisement’s basic eligibility table classifies the minimum experience as post-qualification experience. It also restricts qualifying employer experience to a PSU, government organisation, public limited company, PSU joint venture or private firm with a valid CIN.
Before selecting a code, make a short record of your qualifying degree date, each relevant employment period and the work you performed. Match that record to the required area. A job title such as “consultant” or “manager” may be too broad to show the connection; experience certificates and supporting records should make your actual responsibilities clear. Do not count future experience that you will acquire after the closing date.
Age limits
Candidates must have completed 23 years of age. The upper limit depends on the grade, and the reference date is 15 October 2026.
| Grade | Upper age | Codes |
|---|---|---|
| YP-1 | 35 years | M-2, M-3, M-4, C-3, F-2, D-1, E-1 |
| YP-2 | 38 years | C-1, C-2, F-1 |
| YP-3 | 42 years | M-1 |
Use the date of birth recorded in your matriculation certificate when reviewing eligibility. The advertisement does not publish a separate category-wise age-relaxation table for these engagements.
You can use the Age Calculator with 15 October 2026 as the reference date before checking the upper limit for your selected grade.
Application fee and payment confirmation
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Registration and processing fee | ₹500 |
| Categories covered in the application guide | General, OBC (NCL), EWS, SC, ST and PwD |
| Additional payment charges | Payable by the candidate |
| Refund | Fee is non-refundable |
Follow the payment link and instructions displayed in your SAIL application account. The user guide explains an SBI Collect payment route, including recording the payment reference and receipt in the application. Check the current screen before making payment.
A payment receipt alone is not proof that your application is complete. The official applicant FAQ says payment must be confirmed and the application must be generated with a unique Application Number. Save both the receipt and the completed application. If payment is not reflected in the account, contact the portal helpdesk with the payment details.
Monthly retainership and contract conditions
| Grade | Monthly consolidated retainership |
|---|---|
| YP-1 | ₹70,000 |
| YP-2 | ₹1,00,000 |
| YP-3 | ₹1,40,000 |
The initial engagement can last up to three years. Extensions may be granted one year at a time for up to two additional years, subject to eligibility, performance and company discretion. The total period cannot exceed five years.
SAIL expressly describes the arrangement as a contract for service, without an employer–employee relationship or a right to regular appointment. No HRA, provident fund, pension, gratuity or performance-related payment is provided under the advertised terms. Specified medical, insurance, communication and accommodation provisions are separate; candidates should read those conditions before comparing the offer with their current compensation.
SAIL specifies six working days per week, with an 8.5-hour daily schedule. Leave accrues at 1.5 days for each completed month, equivalent to 18 days a year, without carry-forward beyond the calendar year. These conditions matter if you are planning a move to Kolkata or leaving an existing role.
Selection process
| Stage | What SAIL has stated |
|---|---|
| Application review | Check qualification, experience and other eligibility conditions |
| Shortlisting test, if required | A computer-based, aptitude, general-management, psychometric or other standard test may be used when applications exceed five times the requirement |
| Personal interview | Test-based shortlisting normally uses a 1:3 ratio; candidates tied at the cutoff are also called |
| Smaller applicant pool | If applications are fewer than five times the requirement, all candidates may be called for interview |
| Verification and joining | Documentary eligibility checks and medical fitness requirements apply |
A written test is conditional. The notice does not announce a fixed question count, syllabus, examination duration or negative-marking rule. Follow the official call letter and subsequent announcements for the process that applies to your code.
Documents, photograph and signature
Keep your matriculation certificate, relevant qualification certificates, experience certificates, photo identity proof and address proof ready. Applicants serving in government departments, PSUs or autonomous bodies need the prescribed NOC, with the original required at interview and a release order at joining. Keep a CGPA/SGPA conversion certificate or formula if available.
| Upload | Advertisement specification |
|---|---|
| Photograph | Recent recognisable colour photograph on a white background; JPG/JPEG, up to 50 KB |
| Signature | Running signature; JPG/JPEG, up to 20 KB |
| Supporting certificates | Scanned original documents as PDFs, each up to 300 KB |
Document-size clarification: SAIL’s application guide also lists up to 4 MB for experience certificates and 1 MB for identity/address proof, alongside its general 300 KB instructions. These published limits differ. Prepare readable files within 300 KB where possible; if a larger file is necessary, check that upload field’s current limit or ask the official helpdesk before submission. Use 20 KB for the signature despite an inconsistent larger-size reference elsewhere in the guide.
When recording marks, use your institution’s conversion rule. SAIL’s FAQ explains proportionate conversion when the institution has no formula, including 8.3 on a ten-point scale as 83%. Retain the conversion basis so that the value entered in the form can be explained during verification.
The CGPA to Percentage Calculator can help with the arithmetic once you have selected the correct conversion basis. Use the Image Tools to prepare the photograph and signature while keeping them clear and recognisable.
How to apply online
- Open the recruitment-specific application portal and read the advertisement, applicant guide and FAQ.
- Choose the engagement code that matches your qualifications, experience and age. The registration page limits one candidate to one engagement and one location; it says only the last valid complete application will be retained if multiple applications are made.
- Use Fresh Candidate Registration. Enter your name carefully, provide an email address and mobile number, and complete the OTP checks.
- Sign in through Registered Candidate Login and complete the personal, qualification and experience information.
- Upload the photograph, signature and relevant certificates. Check that each file opens clearly and belongs to the right field.
- Review the engagement code, birth date, qualifications, experience periods and contact details before confirmation. Registration details and finally submitted information cannot be freely edited later.
- Pay the required fee using the portal’s current instructions, enter payment details when required and verify that payment has been confirmed.
- Download the completed application carrying your Application Number. Retain it with the receipt and monitor your email, spam folder and official announcements.
The official FAQ says the completed application does not need to be mailed after online registration. Keep the printout for the selection process if shortlisted. When names differ across certificates, prepare an explanation and supporting proof establishing that the records belong to you.
