The Public Service Commission, West Bengal (WBPSC) has released the detailed advertisement for the Clerkship Examination, 2024 (Advertisement No. 12/2024), with online applications open from 6 October 2026 to 26 October 2026 up to 3:30 PM.
The examination will be used to recruit Lower Division Assistant (LDA), Lower Division Clerk (LDC) and similar clerical posts in the West Bengal Secretariat, Directorates, District offices and regional offices, including Kolkata. WBPSC has not announced the final vacancy count yet; the detailed advertisement states that the number of vacancies will be announced later.
Candidates need a Madhyamik (Class 10) pass or equivalent qualification, elementary computer knowledge and the prescribed computer typing ability. The notified pay is Level 6: ₹22,700–₹58,500, plus admissible allowances under ROPA, 2019.
Important naming note: WBPSC officially calls this the Clerkship Examination, 2024 because Advertisement No. 12/2024 was first issued as an indicative advertisement in December 2024. The detailed advertisement and active application window, however, were released in October 2026.

| Computer knowledge | Elementary knowledge of computer operation |

Bengali Language Requirement
Candidates should be able to read, write and speak Bengali. This requirement does not apply to candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali.
For candidates whose mother tongue is neither Bengali nor Nepali, knowledge of Bengali may be tested at the stage where computer operation and typing ability are assessed. Candidates should therefore read the language condition in the official advertisement carefully before applying.
Age Limit
WBPSC has fixed the age with reference to 1 January 2024, not the 2026 application date.
| Parameter | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Minimum age | 18 years |
| Maximum age | 45 years |
| Age cut-off | 1 January 2024 |
| Permitted DOB range stated by WBPSC | 2 January 1979 to 1 January 2006 |

Age Relaxation
| Category | Relaxation / Rule |

| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) of West Bengal | 3 years in upper age limit |
| PwBD | WBPSC states upper age relaxable up to 45 years |
| Ex-Servicemen | Service period deduction subject to the conditions in the advertisement |
| SC / ST / OBC of other states | Treated as General candidates for relaxation purposes |
Because the notification uses specific wording for category concessions, candidates should apply only the relaxation that is expressly available to their category and circumstances.
Application Fee
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General / EWS / OBC and other fee-paying candidates | ₹110 + applicable service charges |
| SC of West Bengal | Nil |
| ST of West Bengal | Nil |
| PwBD with 40% or more benchmark disability | Nil |
| SC / ST candidates of other states | No exemption |
The fee is payable online only. OBC candidates are required to pay the normal fee. WBPSC does not provide for refund or transfer of the fee to another examination.
WBPSC Clerkship Salary
The notified pay for the Clerkship posts is:
| Component | Details |
|---|---|
| Pay level | Level 6 |
| Pay scale | ₹22,700–₹58,500 |
| Additional benefits | D.A., M.A. and H.R.A. as admissible under ROPA, 2019 |
Reservation and Special Categories
Reservation benefits are available subject to the rules stated by WBPSC and the Government of West Bengal.
The advertisement provides for reservation/benefits for eligible SC, ST and OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates of West Bengal, PwBD candidates, Ex-Servicemen, Meritorious Sportspersons and EWS candidates of West Bengal. Candidates from another state claiming SC/ST/OBC status are treated as General candidates for the relevant West Bengal reservation benefit.
Candidates claiming a reserved category or special benefit must possess the certificate prescribed by the advertisement and the competent authority. Claims made in the application must be supported at the appropriate verification stage.
Selection Process
The Clerkship recruitment proceeds through successive stages:
| Stage | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Part-I | Objective-type examination |
| Part-II | Conventional written examination for shortlisted candidates |
| Computer operation & typing | Assessed after qualifying Part-I and Part-II |
| Bengali knowledge test | Applied where required under the language rule |
| Medical examination | Required before appointment |
| Police verification | Antecedent verification before appointment |
Final selection is subject to the Commission's qualifying standards, the written examination results and successful completion of the required computer/typing stage and other appointment formalities.
Qualifying Standards and Negative Marking
The detailed recruitment information prescribes aggregate qualifying standards, with the Commission retaining discretion under its rules. Candidates should check the current WBPSC scheme/syllabus and question instructions before the examination.
For objective multiple-choice questions, the recruitment instructions provide 0.25 mark negative marking for each wrong answer. Do not assume the same marking treatment for conventional papers.
Posting Preference in the Application
The WBPSC Clerkship application requires candidates to indicate posting preferences. Candidates should carefully select the available option/order for Secretariat departments, Directorates and regional/district offices as presented in the live form.
The typing option—English or Bengali—also needs to be selected during the application process. Candidates should not select a typing language that they cannot meet at the prescribed speed.

Candidates with benchmark disabilities and a limitation in writing may be permitted a scribe subject to the notification conditions and the prescribed certificate. The advertisement provides 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour to eligible PwBD candidates who satisfy the required conditions.
A candidate using a scribe should read the WBPSC requirements carefully, including the qualification standard for the scribe and the required declaration/certificate.
How to Apply for WBPSC Clerkship Recruitment 2026
- Check your age using the correct historical cut-off date. WBPSC calculates age as on 1 January 2024, even though applications are being accepted in 2026. Use the Regal Naukri Age Calculator to calculate your exact age on that date, then compare it with the notification and any category-specific relaxation.
- Confirm the full eligibility combination before registering. You need Madhyamik/equivalent qualification, the required computer knowledge, typing ability and applicable language eligibility. The Regal Naukri Eligibility Pre-check can help you organise these conditions as a preliminary check; WBPSC's advertisement remains the authority.
- Open the WBPSC Clerkship Detailed Advertisement and read the age, qualification, reservation, fee and application instructions.
- Visit the WBPSC Official Website and open the Clerkship Examination, 2024 application entry under Advertisement No. 12/2024. Submit only one application; WBPSC warns that multiple applications by the same candidate are liable to cancellation.
- Prepare certificates before entering category claims. Use the Government Job Document Checklist to organise only the records relevant to your application—especially Madhyamik proof, photo ID and any category, EWS, PwBD, Ex-Serviceman or sports certificate you actually claim.
- Enter your personal, qualification and contact details exactly as supported by your records. Select the English or Bengali typing option and choose the required posting preference/order shown in the application form.
- Enter the details of an accepted photo identity document and upload any prescribed supporting certificate in the format and size required by the portal.
- Pay the ₹110 fee plus service charges if you are not in an exempt category. Complete payment by 26 October 2026 at 3:30 PM.
- Review the application carefully and submit it before the deadline. Save the registration details, submitted application and payment acknowledgement.
- If an editable field needs correction, use WBPSC's 28 October–1 November 2026 edit window. The edit facility is limited, so do not depend on it as a substitute for checking the original form.
For a detailed form-filling workflow—including how to separate eligibility checks, deadlines, supporting records and the final review—read Regal Naukri's How to Fill Government Job Forms Online guide. Regal Naukri tools and guides are preparation aids only; WBPSC's official advertisement, corrigenda and live portal instructions always prevail.
