Who Can Apply for NCR GDCE 2026?
This GDCE is restricted to the North Central Railway workforce. A candidate should verify the following conditions before applying:
- the applicant must be a regular and serving North Central Railway employee and have lien in NCR;
- there is no minimum service condition for otherwise eligible regular and serving NCR employees under the rule cited in the notification;
- the employee must hold the prescribed educational qualification for the chosen post by the application closing date, with the qualification recorded as required in service records/HRMS;
- employees in grades higher than the notified post are not eligible for that post;
- a candidate cannot apply for the same post on which he or she is presently working;
- trainees and substitutes who are not regularised are not eligible;
- RPF/RPSF personnel are not eligible;
- Law Assistant, Catering Inspector and Accounts Cadre employees are excluded under the cited Railway Board instructions; and
- candidates awaiting the final result of the required qualification are not eligible.
Candidates who resign from or are transferred out of North Central Railway during the selection process lose eligibility under the notification.
Educational Qualification
Qualification is post-specific. The following summary covers the main notified groups; candidates should match their exact category number with Annexure F before submitting preferences.
| Post group | Essential qualification summary |
|---|---|
| Assistant Loco Pilot | Matriculation/SSLC plus ITI or Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in a notified trade; or Matriculation/SSLC plus 3-year Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Automobile Engineering / permitted combination. Engineering degree in the same disciplines is accepted in lieu of the diploma. |
| Technician-I Signal / Telecom | B.Sc. in specified Physics/Electronics/Computer Science/IT/Instrumentation streams or permitted combinations; or 3-year engineering diploma / engineering degree in the specified streams. |
| Technician-III Signal & Telecom | Matriculation/SSLC plus ITI/CCAA in Electronics Mechanic, Electrician or Wireman; or 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics. |
| Other Technician-III categories | Matriculation/SSLC plus ITI or Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the trade specifically listed for that Technician category. |
| Junior Engineer categories | Relevant 3-year engineering diploma / permitted B.Sc. route for applicable Civil categories. B.E./B.Tech in the same notified discipline is acceptable in lieu of the 3-year diploma for JE posts. |
| Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk | 12th (+2 stage) or equivalent with at least 50% aggregate. The 50% condition is not insisted upon for SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen and candidates holding qualifications higher than 12th, as stated in the notification. |
| Junior Clerk Cum Typist | Same 12th qualification rule as above, plus typing proficiency in English or Hindi on computer. |
For Technician posts, an engineering diploma/degree is not automatically accepted in place of ITI/CCAA unless the notification specifically permits that route for the category.
Age Limit
Age is reckoned as on 1 January 2027.
| Category | Age rule |
|---|---|
| Minimum age | 18 years |
| UR | Up to 42 years |
| OBC | Up to 45 years |
| SC / ST | Up to 47 years |
SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates applying against unreserved vacancies do not receive category age relaxation for that unreserved vacancy. Use the Regal Naukri Age Calculator with 1 January 2027 as the cut-off date, then compare the result with the rule applicable to your category.
Pay Level and Medical Standard
The recruitment covers several 7th CPC levels rather than one common salary scale. The official notification specifies the pay level for each category but does not provide one uniform rupee salary figure for all 656 posts.
| Post | Pay level | Medical standard |
|---|---|---|
| Assistant Loco Pilot | Level 2 | A1 |
| Technician-I Signal / Telecom | Level 5 | B1 |
| Technician-III | Level 2 | A3 / B1 / C1 depending on category |
| Junior Engineer | Level 6 | A3 / B1 / C1 depending on category |
| Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk | Level 3 | B2 |
| Junior Clerk Cum Typist | Level 2 | C2 |
Candidates must satisfy the medical standard for the selected post. Failure to pass the prescribed Railway medical fitness standard makes the candidate unsuitable for empanelment for that post.
Application Fee
The detailed RRC/NCR GDCE notification does not state an application or examination fee. Do not copy a fee from another Railway recruitment. If the live application portal displays any payment instruction, verify it against the current RRC/NCR notice or clarification before proceeding.
Selection Process
| Post group | Selection stages |
|---|---|
| Assistant Loco Pilot | CBT → Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) → Document Verification → Medical Examination |
| Technicians | CBT → Document Verification → Medical Examination |
| Junior Engineers | CBT → Document Verification → Medical Examination |
| Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk | CBT → Document Verification → Medical Examination |
| Junior Clerk Cum Typist | CBT → Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST) → Document Verification → Medical Examination |
Selection is merit-based subject to eligibility, post preference, document verification and medical fitness.
CBT, Aptitude Test and Typing Test: Key Rules
The CBT questions and answer options are in English and Hindi. For CBTs across the notified categories, each wrong answer attracts a deduction of one-third of the marks assigned to that question.
The notification states the following minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in the CBT: UR 40%, EWS 40%, OBC-NCL 30%, SC 30% and ST 25%. These percentages may be relaxed by 2% for PwBD candidates in case of shortage of PwBD candidates against reserved vacancies.
For Assistant Loco Pilot, the revised CBT pattern provides 100 questions for 100 marks in 120 minutes, with an approximate 25% weightage each for Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, Basic Science & Engineering and the Trade Specific section. Candidates shortlisted for CBAT must qualify each test battery separately with a minimum T-score of 42; CBAT has no negative marking. The ALP merit list gives 50% weightage to CBT and 50% to CBAT among candidates who qualify CBAT.
For Junior Clerk Cum Typist, CBTST is qualifying in nature. The prescribed typing speed is 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi on a personal computer, subject to the notification's exemption provisions for eligible PwBD candidates.
